Marysville of California

Best 18 things to do in Marysville, California

Just like marina city, Marysville of California is a city that lies about 2 hours north of San Francisco. I stayed two days in this city, exploring every little part of this fantastic place. If one thing I have to mention about Marysville, it’s the parks. Every corner you turn to, you will find a garden. Marysville has more than just parks. It’s a place for people who love diverse cultural foods and coffee.

I added Marysville city to my list of places where I should retire; that’s how calm and beautiful this city was. Here is a list of places I enjoyed visiting in Marysville, California. It does not include any regular fast-food chains. Typical family businesses run these places and restaurants. Let’s get started, shall we,

1.Yuba Park

Yuba park is the first place the locals directed me to visit. I dint had any expectations when I went to the park. I noticed that the park is divided into parks where one half of the park is where you have regular picnic tables and playground equipment for kids, and another half is a sewage pumping station. For an evening walk, this is the place to visit. Yuba park extends over 4.2 acres. Yuba Park generally lies between Yuba Street and Ramirez Street and between the Marysville levee and East Tenth Street.

Alcohol and weapons are prohibited in the park; you would have to pay a fine of $250 for violations.

People sometimes organize birthday parties and small events in this park. Talk to the locals; they are friendly and will guide you to things that you wouldn’t experience on your own.

2.Ellis lake

The next best thing after yuba park is Ellis lake. It covers a distance of 1.2 miles as a loop. Its surrounded by Ellis lake park. You can visit this place to enjoy the scenic view but all other recreational activities like swimming, water skiing are prohibited because of polluted water. Fishing is allowed if you have a valid license. Pulling up to the shores of this lake and spending the evenings and mornings were my favorite of the trip to Marysville, California.

ellis lake of marysville

You can take a walk through the loops of this lake. If you are into fishing, this lake has lots and lots of catfishes. A lot of people come to this lake for fishing. Just like the yuba park you are not allowed to bring any weapons or alcohol into the lake premises.

You can also check out the fountain lighting at night from 8 pm to 12 pm. Ellis lake is where families come together during summer, which is one of the reasons why the rules are pretty strict with hefty fines.

3.Yuba County Museum of History

yuba county history museum

Yuba county museum is the third place I want you to visit after Ellis lake. This is where you can learn all about the amazing story of this wonderful city. This modern city has been evolving for ages and today it’s a beautiful place to settle as a family.

Yuba county museum offers a variety of historical programs to explain to people about yuba history. This is a nonprofit organization, if you do want to volunteer during your stay in Marysville, you can contact their administration.

They are funded by local schools and other organizations in the city.

4.Washington square park

Washington square park

Even though Washington square park is located in the middle of the city, it’s quiet to spend your afternoons. So I traveled around town continuously, got some take-outs from round table pizza, and settled in this square park for the afternoon.

The water in the park is not safe to drink, so don’t even think about dipping your feet in the water. Sometimes rallies are run by the Christian motorcyclist association from this park. If you are bringing kids to Marysville, Washington square park is the best place to sit down and have lunch.

5.Mary Aaron Memorial Museum

mary aron park

Mary Aaron memorial museum was built 150 years ago. Mary Aaron gave it to the city of Marysville in 1955. I parked my car by the museum, when I told them I was coming from san Francisco, I was given a guided tour. Mary Aaron Memorial Museum is maintained by the local funding.

Yuba county-issued marriage certificates around the 1850s. If you have a groom’s name, you can still check them out at Mary Aaron Memorial Museum. The historical records don’t stop there, it includes pictures as well. It includes pictures of people, businesses from Marysville city. The artifacts that you will find here would really bring back the rich history of Marysville city. If you are visiting Marysville, I would highly recommend you to visit this museum.

Mary Aaron Museum Opens first Saturday each month. You can also visit by appointment. I was able to call them and get an appointment.

6.River Front Park

river front park marysville

River front Park is known for many things and one of them is dirt bike races. Besides this park being used as a picnic spot for locals as well as the kids to play in summer, river front park is used for a lot of other recreational camps.

If you follow the river front MX park’s Facebook page, you can find that they are working through the week to get the tracks ready for weekend races.

These motocross are available for all age groups no matter what skill levels you are at. You can contact Zeb at river front Mx park to get your first visit to this river font park. There are three tracks for you to practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Small concerts often happen in the river front park. It’s the best place for fishing besides Ellis lake.

7.Veterans Park

veterans park marysville

A park located in the middle of town with a children’s play area is a must-have for a city with so much history. This veterans park is easily accessible from either side of the city. In addition, it is located a couple of blocks away from the greyhound bus station.

There are plenty of parking spots around the park, and you can just sit and watch your kids play. This place is bustling during the weekends. The only problem is the trash. The area doesn’t have a trash can and smells like metal.

This whole place needs an upgrade. Veterans park honors people who have done great things for this country from Marysville, and it should be cleaned and upgraded. That’s the only I wanted to include this place in my list. It deserves better management. If you have the authority to do so, please do the kids a big favor.

One sweet piece of advice for the kids is not to use the slides during the afternoon; they are hot.

8.Bok Kai Temple

bok kai temple marysville

Located by the banks of the yuba river lies the Chinese Taoist temple that was built in 1880. This place is a hidden gem in the city of Marysville. I thought this was just a temple, but it had a park nearby, and being by the banks of the river, this is a great place to spend your evenings.

The place has a great backdrop to take pictures. Unfortunately, just like the veteran’s park, this palace has trash problems. However, this temple is located next to plaza park, and you can put your picnic towel on the ground and have your lunch there.

You can also find the Chinese museum a block away from the bok kai temple. The Chinese Americans are a significant part of the city’s rich culture and diversity. Just opposite the bok kai temple is a church, which will show you the unity in diversity among the people here in Marysville.

9. China Moon Restaurant

china moon restaurent marysville

If you are looking for a restaurant for a dinner date, then china moon restaurant should be on your list. They serve A-class food with a great atmosphere. You will also get the experience of eating in a nice place. China moon is located on the 3rd street near yuba gold and coin.

Their service is fantastic, with serving size being very generous. If I don’t mention their chow mein, then I’m not doing a proper justice of china moon. They have multiple options for chow mein, starting from pork, beef, and shrimp.

Check out the chicken dishes, and they are out of this world. You will not go wrong with any of the chicken dishes.

10.AJ’s Sandwiches

ajs sandwiches marysville

AJ’s is the highest-rated restaurant in Marysville. AJ’s sandwiches are located next to king clothing on 6th street. This restaurant is running in Marysville for more than ten years. AJ is active in the community, and they also offer catering services.

When it comes to food, I would want you to try the arsonist and the godfather sandwiches. But, if you are a vegan, they have options too, and you can try their greek sellout and gold sox unique.

The burger section is what drew me into this place; the big juice, the big cheese, and the Marysville rodeo were a feast to my tongue. They also have a small kids’ menu with PB&J., a family restaurant that includes kids’ dishes on the menu.

11.Pacific Green Coffee

pacific green coffee shop

Pacific green coffee, also known as java detour, is an excellent drive-through coffee shop in Marysville, California. It is located between McDonald’s and all rite market 98. A lot of drive-through shops in Marysville don’t have proper parking spots to enough for your food. Pacific green beats them not just in providing good quality drinks but also with some great parking spots.

No matter how big the order is, the service is fast, and the people are friendly. I tried the coffee expresso blended cold rush, and I haven’t tasted anything like that in years. It was an experience to be had.

My recommendation would be the Blue Raspberry Red Bull Mocktail as a refresher. The happy hour at pacific green coffee is between 5 pm and 7 pm, and You can get great discounts and price drops across the menu.

12.Brick Coffee House Café

coffee shop marysville

Located in a late 19th-century building, the brick coffee house cafe is a must-visit experience for every visitor to Marysville. They offer a wide range of foods other than chai tea. The portions are substantial, and you won’t be disappointed by the vibe of this place.

The brick coffee menu has six salads, including Caesar salad, four amazing sandwiches, and six mouth-watering desserts. Fiesta chicken quesadilla was the highly recommended dish on the menu. It might cost you a bit but will fill you up like no other dish on the menu.

You can also rent this place in the afternoons and evenings for your private parties and birthdays. The tables are nice and clean, and you can’t hate the outdoor tables, which look like they are stolen from a beach resort.

13.Casa Carlos Restaurant & Cantina

Casa Carlos Restaurant & Cantina

Casa Carlos is a walk-in restaurant that offers excellent Mexican food in Marysville. It’s located bear champaka nails and spa. They are a family-owned restaurant in Marysville for more than ten years.

The staff will check on you often and will make sure you are provided the best service. If you are not all about food, just visit this restaurant alone in Marysville.

Chile Relleno is the dish I was recommended to try, and casa Carlos outdid themselves compared to all other words I tasted from them. However, they need to fix the enchiladas a little better. Steak ranchero is another dish you should try if you are stopping by for lunch.

14.Round Table Pizza

round table pizza marysville

I don’t include a fast-food chain unless it’s a must-visit place or experience. Round table pizza is one such place where you should have lunch or dinner. I ordered my Maui Zaui from them. The wait time was reasonable, and the staff was amicable. The service itself will make you come again and again.

Salad bar and cinnamon sticks were highly recommended foods in round table pizza. They are a great addition to your pizza. However, the price is where you might have a problem. Most places offer pizza at half the price of round table pizza.

You can also check out their lunch buffet as well as lunch specials. Great place to eat, but it’s a bit expensive if you have to feed a family of four or five.

15.Sun’s Donut

suns doughnut marysville

Located about two blocks away from the subway is this amazing Sun’s Donut place. If you are craving something sweet, this is the place to check out in Marysville city. They open super early at 4 am, making it convenient for me to get the donuts after my morning run. The texture, taste, and consistency were just out of this world. I would rate sun’s donuts in the top 10 donut spots on my list.

One more thing to consider about sun’s donuts is that they close around 2 pm. So if you are looking for them in the evening, you will be greeted by a closed shop, not a glazed donut. They are a family business that is around for more than 20 years and offers the best quality service among all the companies in Marysville.

I was recommended to try ham & cheese croissants, and they were not wrong. Itcroissantsbomb.

16.Frosty’s Grill N’ Chills

frostys grill and chill

Frosty’s is located next to Colusa stadium opposite the dollar tree store. The most significant plus point of this city is the diversity, and if you don’t like Korean BBQ fish and chips, you have another store that offers you a straight burger-based Americanised fish and chips.

When I visited frosty’s, I found a spot behind the store to sit at a picnic table and had the best burger I have ever tasted in my life. The service is speedy, and the prices are great as well. They offer so many different flavors of milkshakes, including chocolate banana, which is my favorite. ( gotta mention that)

Other than the shakes and burgers, you have to try the fish basket. It’s highly recommended. I would suggest you stop by daily and get one flavor of the milkshake. (they have so many)

17.Ocean Fish & Chips & Korean BBQ

oceans fish and chips marysville

A Korean BBQ restaurant that will blow your mind away with the seafood in Marysville city. The food is exceptionally fresh and is served hot. The one thing that stood out to me is the menu, and it was pervasive. It’s not a fancy restaurant but a family-owned Korean BBQ place that gives you good food.

Some of the dishes I was recommended to try are the japchae and teriyaki salmon. Ocean fish restaurant is located next to dollar tree and frosty’s grill and chill. My favorite dish from this restaurant was the crab cake and the teriyaki dish.

They told me that they moved from Yuba city off of Shasta and even updated their menus. The husband and wife have been running this business for more than 15 years.

18.El Rey Méxican Restaurant

el ray mexican marysville

El Rey Mexican Restaurant is a taqueria-type restaurant situated in the northern part of the town near a 7-eleven. If you are craving some tasty Mexican food, el Rey Mexican is the restaurant for lunch and dinner in Marysville, California.

The chivalry you receive in this restaurant by the service staff is extraordinary. You should check out some of the foods, our cheese enchilada, tacos Asada, and the breakfast burrito.

A local family runs El ray Mexican in Marysville for more than 20 years. The size of the food is plenty, and you won’t be disappointed. Super burrito was recommended to me when I asked for their most favorite dish by the customers.
