The 4th of July is the perfect opportunity to get out and explore California. From San Francisco to Los Angeles, there are many great places to celebrate Independence Day in California. Whether you want a relaxing day on the beach or an all-day party, here are 15 great sites for celebrating our nation’s birthday in this state! 

1. San Diego, California

From July 2 – 4, Harbor Island hosts the largest Fourth of July party in San Diego. Live bands will play all day at multiple stages, and there will be food and drinks available for purchase.

The best part of the day is when thousands of people gather on Harbor Island to watch a firework show from one of San Diego’s beaches. So grab your American flag and head down to join in on the fun!

2. San Francisco, California

On July 4th, Pier 39 will have a full-day celebration with live music. In addition, you can catch a stunning view of the firework show over San Francisco Bay at 9:30 pm from either Fisherman’s Wharf or Ghirardelli Square. There will also be food available for purchase in both locations, so don’t worry about packing a picnic basket!  

3. Los Angeles, California

At Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach, you will be able to watch the sunset over the ocean while enjoying a beautiful firework show at 9:30 pm. There is no cost for parking and admission is free!  

4. Monterey, California

Catch a stunning view of the Monterey Bay sunset and enjoy an evening watching fireworks from Lover’s Point with 20,000 other spectators on July 4th, beginning at 9:00 pm. Then, protect from either the grass or sand with family and friends to make an evening out of it!     

5. San Jose, California

The San Jose Giants host the Modesto Nuts on Monday, July 4th, for a double-header that starts at 2:00 pm. Round out your day with some baseball before moving on to the fireworks show at Municipal Stadium.

6. Sacramento, California

Celebrate Independence Day in Sacramento at Raley Field before watching the Sacramento River Cats take on the Reno Aces beginning at 7:05 pm. The first 2,500 fans will receive an America flag designed by Bay Area artist Michael Mathis which you can wave proudly throughout the game!     

7. Sonoma, California

On Monday, July 4th, mark your calendars to celebrate with wine and live music in Sonoma Plaza, from 5:30 pm until 930 pm. You can also catch a stunning view of the firework show that begins at 9:30 pm over Sonoma Mountain. 

8. Los Angeles, California

The Los Angeles Dodgers host, the Colorado Rockies, is beginning at 6:10 pm for Fireworks Friday on July 1st! Tickets are still available, so get yours today before they sell out. During the game, fans can enjoy drink specials, including $5 beers and hot dogs starting at only $2!  

9. Eureka, California

On July 2nd, Elk River Touring Park will be hosting an Independence Day Celebration in their campground with live music, food trucks, and of course, a spectacular firework show to end the night!     

10. San Luis Obispo, California

Every year on July 4th, thousands of people flock to San Luis Obispo for an all-day celebration. Enjoy live music throughout the day, food trucks, and even a beer garden with $1 beers beginning at 6:00 pm while you wait for the firework show to start at 9:30 pm.     

11. Mendocino, California

On July 2nd, Mendocino Headlands State Park will be hosting their annual Independence Day Celebration. The celebration begins with horseshoe tournaments continuing into the afternoon, where you can eat wood-fired pizza while enjoying live music on one of two stages. At 5:30 pm sharp, there will be a flag ceremony followed by a dance. The night will be wrapped up with a spectacular firework show at 9:15 pm!   

12. Palm Springs, California

Independence Day Celebration at Palm Springs Stadium with the Salt Lake Bees vs. Tacoma Rainiers on Tuesday, July 5th beginning at 7:05 pm. Watch the game from one of nearly 10,000 seats before moving on to a spectacular firework show over Palm Springs!     

13. Santa Rosa, California

The Santa Rosa A’s host the Vallejo Admirals beginning at 5:05 pm on July 4th. Take your family and friends out to watch America’s favorite pastime with a twist! Every fan will receive a tiara designed by Bay Area artist Michael Mathis in honor of our nation’s birthday.     

14. Petaluma, California

Watch one of Petaluma’s favorite events, The Run to Home Base. During this annual event, runners will be able to participate in a 5k race beginning and ending at Wilson Park, where you can enjoy live music from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. Once the run is finished, head over to MacDonald Stadium, where pet-friendly festivities will ensue from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. There will be a bouncy house for the kids, food, and drinks available to purchase, and patriotic music playing throughout!     

15. Livermore, California

The Tri-Valley Redcoats host their Annual “We Love America” Fireworks Spectacular on Monday, July 4th, beginning at 5:30 pm. Enjoy live music from local band The Squares and fun activities such as face painting, grab bags, and more! Before you head home, make sure to grab a scoop of ice cream from one of Livermore’s famous mom and pop shops like Fentons Creamery or Kate’s Ice Cream.
